Q: What products do I need to prepare before microneedling?
A: You'll need the Dr. Pen microneedling device, a clean towel, a new microneedling cartridge, alcohol solution for sanitizing, cotton pads, serum (hyaluronic acid is recommended), and optionally, surgical gloves and numbing cream.

Q: How does the derma pen work?
A: The derma pen is passed over the area of skin to be treated, and its tiny needles cause minute punctures to the skin. These small punctures stimulate the body's inherent healing response, which naturally rejuvenates the skin.

Q: How many micro-needling treatments will I need?
A: On average, 4-6 sessions with the derma pen are recommended. For a more personalized estimate, please consult with your technician during your initial consultation.

Q: How often should I have a derma pen micro-needling treatment, and how many do I need?
A: Typically, 4-8 treatment sessions are required, with treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. However, individual needs and results will vary. Some important points to remember include using a minimum broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 (preferably 50) and trying to avoid the sun, using only mineral-based foundation or Lycogel for the first 24 hours, and avoiding the use of saunas or steam rooms until the skin has returned to normal.

Q: Do the needles move up and down, or do they only vibrate? How many microchannels?
A: The Dr. Pen vibrates up and down and can be set from low to high to increase microchannels per minute.

Q: What should I pay attention to when starting with microneedling?
A: Microneedling:

Apply the hyaluronic acid serum to the area to lubricate the skin. The serum helps the needles to glide over the skin and prevent the pen from dragging. We do not recommend Vitamin C, retinol, exfoliants, or other brightening ingredients be used during the treatment as they can cause irritation and reaction.
Ensure your hands are clean; you may wear gloves if you feel safer doing so. Open a new cartridge and attach it to your device. Do not touch the tip of the needles.
Choose your desired needle depth by rotating the dial on your pen. Our pen needles length can be adjusted.
Now, working in small areas, apply the serum to the skin just before needling. The recommended pattern to move the pen is vertical, horizontal, then diagonal in both directions. We recommend working in a grid, so you know exactly where you have and haven't passed over with the pen. Use light pressure, and use your free hand to hold the skin taut.
When needling areas of the body (such as the legs or hands), avoid needling over the bony parts (especially on the legs). Ensure only to use 36-42 pin cartridges for microneedling the body. Regarding needle depth, we recommend using 0.5 for legs and up to 1.5 for fattier areas.
Q: How to do post-needling?
A: Post-needling:

If you wish to wash your face after, use tepid water. Immediately apply hyaluronic acid to the area to provide hydration and calm the skin. It's perfectly normal to experience redness, swelling, and pinpoint bleeding after your microneedling treatment. This is nothing to worry about as this reaction is normal. Avoid working out/sweating or applying anything to the area for 24 hours after the treatment.
